Steven asks…
Marketing Degree the Same as Advertising?
I am a high school senior, with very few days left, and I’m still very indecisive about my future. I am very interested in Advertising, but the college that I am looking at, only has a program in Marketing, are they the same? And, with a Marketing/Advertising Degree, what kind of jobs can I get into?
admin answers:
Advertising is one part of Marketing. Marketing actually includes something called “The Four P’s”: Product, Placement, Price, and Promotion. Advertising is one part of Promotion.
So the study of marketing is broader than that of advertising. Advertising focuses only on that one aspect of marketing.
The jobs you get from a marketing degree vary, depending on what sorts of career-related work experiences you gain while you study. So at university, make sure you do marketing and PR related work for clubs on campus, and get a marketing internship. That’ll set you up well to get a job in the field when you graduate.

Is Postgraduate Diploma in Advertising & Marketing Management a good course for job market?
Amity University offers a one year PG Diploma in Advertising and Marketing. Please tell me whether this course has any career prospect. Does Amity provide any placement assistance? Is this course recognized by UGC?
admin answers:
PG in Advertising and marketing is a good course but no ideas as specific to Amity.
You can alternatively try in Symbiosis Mass Communication or MICA … these are indeed a good college and placement prospects are good too.

What are the essential traits of a person working in advertising & marketing?
Recently i have been offered a job in the advertising industry. I do not possess any experience in this area, but i do have fair experiences towards marketing field.I am keen towards learning this feild that’s been offered to me,….but i do wish to know more of essential traits and knowledge in this area…
admin answers:
I hope you have an extremely good personality. In advertising it’s all about selling – and to do that you have to have what it takes to get people to talk to you. Your personality will be what makes you or breaks you.
When people are comfortable talking to you, and you are listening to what they want and need – you will be able to asses that customers situation and develop a program or product that will benefit them, you and the company you are working for.
good luck with the position!

Maria asks…
Are British businesses being forced to spend more money on advertising/marketing due to UK economic downturn?
Is this a good time to get involved in advertising and marketing? Does every cloud really have a silver lining?
admin answers:
The first thing you learn in Business 101 is that:
‘You need to spend more money to get customers during an economic downswing because there are fewer customers out there and reaching a smaller isolated number is harder then reaching a mass audience’
The amount of businesses that understand that… Very few. Thats why many of them go out of business. They haven’t prepared for what every economy will do which is cycle down. Most businesses think that good times last forever so they fail to plan for when things get tough. Many don’t keep cash reserves on hand to float the company through bad times.
Every time you make a sale a portion of that should go to a fund that covers you for several months of expenditures. While you are paying your bills for 3 months and scaling back for a longer haul your comp is struggling to keep their doors open. When they start closing you need to be in a position to grab their customers which in turn allows you to keep your doors open.
Not advertising and going into lock down mode is nothing but a recipe for disaster.
Even if things begin to get better they aren’t going to go from bad to great over night. It will generally be gradual so a recovery, certainly like the one we are in right now, is not going to change tomorrow.
The business who is proactive and not reactive generally will emerge the winner.
While you are getting customers during hard times they are losing them. When things turn around you will emerge as the real winner here.

That`s not a quick survey,

Robert asks…
Whats a good attention getter to write the letter below?
Assume the role of vice president of marketing for Krisbee Snax, a midsized snack food manufacturer in the Northeast. Your company is introducing a new snack food. The snack food industry is very competitive, and you believe your best chance to introduce the new product, Krisbee Korns, is to get grocery stores to feature the tasty, low-fat snacks on their end-of-aisle displays. Your company has a good reputation for quality snacks, and this new product promises to be a top seller. However, most grocery stores reserve the end-of-aisle display space for the bigger food companies in the industries.
You are willing to offer a sizeable discount (50 percent) in the price you charge retailers for the new product in exchange for this prime location in their stores during the month of September. In addition to this promotional allowance, you also plan a big advertising campaign for this new product, which should increase their sales even more.
Write a letter to Ms. Betty Eagleston, corporate buyer for Thriftway grocery store chain, persuading her to feature Krisbee Korns on the end-of-aisle displays in Thriftway stores during the month of September. Write to her at the corporate headquarters located at 4815 Crane Creek Road in Avondale, WV 24811.

Help on my landscaping and construction business plan i need answers under each topic please help asap.?
Promotion
How will you get the word out to customers?
Advertising: What media, why, and how often? Why this mix and not some other?
Have you identified low-cost methods to get the most out of your promotional budget?
Will you use methods other than paid advertising, such as trade shows, catalogs, dealer incentives, word of mouth (how will you stimulate it?), and network of friends or professionals?
Should you have a system to identify repeat customers and then systematically contact them?
How much will you spend on the items listed above? Where will this money come from?
Image
What image do you want to project? How do you want customers to see you?
What plans do you have for graphic image support? This includes things like logo design, cards and letterhead, brochures, signage, and interior design (if customers come to your place of business).
Pricing
Explain your method or methods of setting prices.
Compare your prices with those of the competition. Are they higher, lower, the same? Why?
For most small businesses, having the lowest price might take away from profit margin; large competitors can under price you anyway.
Will you have average prices and compete on quality and service?
Does your pricing strategy fit with what was revealed in your competitive analysis?
How important is price as a competitive factor? Do your intended customers really make their purchase decisions mostly on price?
Proposed Location
Is your location important to your customers? If yes, how?
If customers come to your place of business:
Is it convenient? Parking? Interior spaces? Not out of the way?
Is it consistent with your image?
Is it what customers want and expect?
Where is the competition located? Is it better for you to be near them (like car dealers or fast food restaurants) or distant (like convenience food stores)?
What qualities do you need in a location? Describe the type of location you’ll have.
Physical requirements:
• Amount of space
• Type of building
• Zoning
• Power and other utilities
Access:
Is it important that your location be convenient to transportation or to suppliers?
Do you need easy walk-in access?
What are your requirements for parking and proximity to freeway, airports, railroads, and shipping centers?
Include a drawing or layout of your proposed facility if it is important, as it might be for a manufacturer.
Construction? Most new companies should not sink capital into construction, but if you are planning to build, costs and specifications will be a big part of your plan.
Cost: Estimate your occupation expenses, including rent, but also including maintenance, utilities, insurance, and initial remodeling costs to make the space suit your needs.
What will be your business hours?
Distribution Channels
How do you sell your products or services?
• Retail
• Direct (mail order, Web, catalog)
• Wholesale
• Your own sales force
• Agents
• Independent representatives
• Bid on contracts
……I need answers for these in your opinion for a business plan for a landscaping and construction company please help

No one has answered any of your questions in 6 days, despite the fact that they are not that difficult. This is a good example of applied economics. No one feels that it is worth 10 points to answer 27 multiple choice questions. Also, no one wants to do your entire home work. People are willing to help you out with a few questions that you do not understand, but economists understand free-riding. It appears that no one in this community supports your attempt to free ride on the collective knowledge.
I suggest that you convert each of the 27 question in your quiz into a single question and post it separately. In other words, post 27 questions to Yahoo! Answers. You will increase the incentives of answering a lot.
As a start, the answer to your first question is b.
1. The difference between the short-run and the long-run production function is:
b. the time it takes for firms to change all production inputs.

Promotional Hockey Posters?
I see at local hockey shops all the time large posters advertising a new line of gear, a certain brand name, or certain players. Is there a way to buy these commercially? Or are they only given to a dealer of that product?
admin answers:
From my knowledge, only retailers get them so see if they can put one aside for you.

Promotional Ideas for Small Business?
I’ve been running my own jewelry business for a couple of years. It’s mainly a side hobby thing that I do – it certainly doesn’t make enough money to constitute a second job, though we do parties and craft shows. People like our products, and we have a nice base of customers that know us well.
This year I’d like to find some free places to advertise my business and its website, and perhaps some craft consignment places?
I already am on etsy (just a few items for now), I have a website with a domain matching the name of my business, and I am opposed to using ebay because fees are much too high.
I am wondering if anyone knows of other sites like etsy, or places to put up pages free that can advertise my business?
I have an LJ about to be published, and a page attached to my facebook. I also have a myspace for our business.
Other suggestions are appreciated.
Also, if anyone knows of craft consignment places in Massachusetts or southern NH, that would be also appreciated.

The World of Advertising

Summary:
Advertising is a “perpetuum mobile” of trade and every fair businessman knows it. Article shows various ways to advertise and reveals the most modern one.
Keywords:

Article Body:
No one remembers the date or even a year of birth of industry. Maybe it takes its roots from the first rake or the wheel created by some fellow from the cave. Thousands of years has past after simple inventions, bringing us greater, more advanced technologies. In the twenty first century people are surrounded by numerous products and services created to make our lives comfortable and bring pleasure. Commercial world never stops developing and will continue, even if inventions and discoveries stop. What is the “perpetuum mobile” of trade? Advertising.
A paradox lies in a simple fact; advertising was born before the industry. There were other values to advertise before the wheel or a rake. Ancient society was not less competitive than ours. People were always sure that their land, possessions, women, resources are the best, the biggest and the most desirable. Boasting off was an ancestor of advertising that now is a full-forced king of industry. It is difficult to choose what’s right out of the hundred products that have the same effect. Advertising helps people understand the difference and shows strong sides of each. Analyzing information about products a customer chooses a product that best matches his needs. Before delivering a product to a market you have to show why it should be bought.
There are dozens of ways to advertise products and services. We see adverts on TV, in magazines, newspapers, in the form of posters and stickers, billboards, various activities, sponsorship etc. Twenty first century is a century of modern technologies and internet. The advertisement made online is destined to be 10% more effective than a TV advert. Advertising agencies offer a wide range of services for clients, including online work. Creation of a website where all the information could be found is the first step. Next is design and content. People long for quality and beauty and it is within your interest to show it to them. Internet services include copy writing or otherwise methods of writing and editing used to achieve higher ranking in internet search engines. By placing right keywords onto web pages, a copywriter reaches the aim to make the product or service more popular within internet users. Various pop-ups and other methods are also used by outstanding specialists and real sharks in this business. Due to a couple efforts a product is at the top of the marketing list. Advertising brings miraculous income and increases income of companies using advertising company services. Once the world got acquainted with advertising, cooperation will never stop, the only change will be change of methods.
