Sharon asks…
Any viable idea to spend 1.5million to make consumers buy our branded popular drink packet drink?
Yearly, my company spends 2-5 million on billboard, TV etc advertising just to create awareness of our branded and popular product. Is there any other useful, innovative and cost effective ways to spend like that money which will not go to the pocket of TV owners and billboard advertising companies? What type of contest will be a good idea to make people buy more of our product to consume and we also reward them for their purchase?
admin answers:
Marketing wise, Red Bull are the king of the soft drink trade. They took a completely different strategy than their competitors and now they are one of the worlds most recognized youth brands, with large scale exposure in every country in the world.
They started with an extremely low budget – but have managed to become a household and more importantly one of the coolest most respected brands in today’s society.
Almost all companies launching or revamping a brand today are looking at Red Bulls advertising strategy and seeing what they can learn from it.
In terms of brand image, youth respectability and budget – guerrilla advertising and selected sponsorship have always worked well for emerging brands.
TV and billboard advertising are wasted on such a low budget. That sort of money could give you a healthy chunk of brand presence in some selected markets alongside a large slice of viral or traditional internet marketing.
Brand image, creative marketing and solid brand building should always come before gimmicks, rewards, vouchers, competitions etc… The latter options just devalue a brand in the long term.
For the amount of money you are talking about, you must be employing a advertising agency? Probably time to rip up that contract and find a new one?

Hey guise, some friends and I are doing an assignment. We want to know what you think of women being exploited in advertising in NZ, specifically in the Burger King advertisements, Tui billboards and also Car magazines.
EDIT: What effect do you think this has on other women? Please be detailed with your response.
admin answers:
Maybe this will help you, I don’t know.
I don’t think women are exploited. A person can be exploited and some are, no doubt.
Also, I think that the women who get paid for being in advertizements are doing it for the money, that is they are more prostituting themselves, rather than being exploited. They had a choice and made their choices.

CD business cards, or even standard CDs or DVDs can create a much longer lasting impression than paper business cards, brochures, or post cards. Some companies charge a lot to produce a professional presentation for these discs, but I have put some things in place to make this technology affordable for small business owners.
We have hunderds of professional templates for CD business cards and samples of our work at http://www.discwritecd.com/
Please contact me if you have questions or would like a free sample CD business card with more info. JR

How do I get more guests at my hotel?
I opened a 4* hotel last year-30 rooms. The problem is that the hotel may be too good (luxurious) for the town it s situated in, as people and business trip employees go to cheaper hotels. Guests are primary foreign but we do not seem to attract enough, to maintain 50-60% occupancy throughout the month. We have tried tour operators but it is not enough.
How do I boost sales.? Any good suggestions? Billboard advertising does not seem to help much…

Does anyone have any creative ideas for a cat food advertising?
I am at a complete loss! i’m studying advertising at uni, and have to come up with a billboard print idea for wiskas dentabites – they are meaty chews that make cats teeth strong and healthy. I’ve never felt so drained for an exciting idea, so i know this is kind of cheating, but i’m desperate. if anyone could share any exciting thoughts I would be so grateful. Thanks
admin answers:
This should help, it’s the process we use at ad agencies.
I’m not sure if you mean billboard AND print or just an outdoor billboard, but either way this process will get you from assignment to concept.
Start by thinking about the end benefit – strong healthy teeth for a cat. Now, how far can you push that? What are the signs of strong teeth? What can a cat do with strong teeth? Then exaggerate it. Can she bite through the billboard? Hang onto it by her teeth? Does that mean a house cat with saber-tooth tiger teeth? And what are the implications? Where’s the “uh-oh” factor – as in “We may have made our Dentabites too good.” Like that. The exercise is to take what you’re selling (which is never the product, but the benefit) and make it as memorable as possible by pushing it to its extreme. This is where the humor or shock value exists and where you find the best ads.
Just focus on the end benefit and don’t be afraid to follow even the most ridiculous idea as far as you can. Then once you’ve got a basic concept you like, execute it as simply as possible. If it’s all in the visual, don’t bother with headlines or body copy. If you’ve got a great headline, make that the hero of the ad. And always always remember, only put as much on a billboard as someone can get in 3 – 4 seconds. So no copy at all. Big visual, short headline or just big headline but not much.

If a billboard is on your property ?
If a billboard is on your property, should you generate some type of income because it’s there, also if you have not known it was there do you get backpay or something, or do they have to work you into the contract with the person advertising, any and all info is appreciated.
Thanks
The property was left to me by my father who has passed and im needing all the information i can get whether or not to sell it or keep it. if anyone has any useful websites please list. everyones input is greatly appreciated. thanks
admin answers:
Nobody can legally place a billboard on your property without your permission. You can require rent to be paid as a condition for allowing it to be there.
If you bought the property from someone who allowed it to be put there, you MAY have bought the property subject to the terms of whatever agreement there was between them.
For instance, the person who sold it to you may have charged ten years of rent in advance. If so, you may not be able to get anything more from them until that ten years is up.

I am racking my brain trying to think of a “GREAT” billboard idea for our church who’s doing a “WAKE UP” theme?
I have thought of the basic alarm clock – snooze – coffee – ideas. But I am trying to think outside the box and creatively. This billboard will just advertise our next worship gathering series for Sunday Mornings. Any ideas?

Chris asks…
What is your thoughts on advertising?
These days, our TV is bombarded with commercials for everything from cars to hemorroid creams. Do you think that 60% commercials/40% TV programing is fair? What about billboards and magazine advertising?
admin answers:
You’re right, it doesn’t seem fair, does it? But unfortunately it
is a necessary evil required in order to sell and promote
products. There is too much competition these days not to
advertise and try to convince the shopper of why they need
your product. It’s the difference that makes a successful
business and one that fails.
I especially don’t like to see page after page of it in mag-
azines, so I am more selective now with what I buy. Since
I don’t plan to buy a magazine that is mostly ads, no matter
how many scented cologne papers I find among the pages.
When you consider how much an average ad may cost
these days, and multiply that by ‘x’ number of pages in most
magazines, you can get a little idea of how much money
these advertisers are paying the magazine to show their
products. And they complain about the cost of producing
their monthly magazines? I guess they think the buying public
is too naive.
The cost of advertising on TV is much more expensive
than on paper or billboards. And it is annoying to see so
many ads fill our screens every ten or maybe even more
minutes. But there doesn’t seem to be any solution to
that, unless you totally watch the Public Broadcasting
channel that provides commercial free programming,
but does want your donation dollar instead.

How do you feel about all the advertising on your FaceBook page?

Do you know of a resource that compares different advertising methods?
I work for a nonprofit soccer company and we are wanting to raise the awareness of our organization. I am looking for a resource that shows a comparison of different advertising methods. It would compare costs, time, benefits, etc. for direct mail, billboard, magazine ad, newspaper ad, website ad, door-to-door leaflet drop, etc.
Thanks
admin answers:
Hi There,
Congratulations for thinking ahead before applying a quick fix to your apparent awareness problem. Many great products failed to be proitable because they are spending too much in the wrong media to reach their users.
A great advertising or marketing needs to start somewhere. The right place to start before even thinking what to say and where to say it is to look at your product proposition. People in the industry call it USP ( Unique Selling Proposition). Analyse your product. Identify who would want it and why they need to want it. Be honest and identify the killer reason to make people want. Do not fall into the common trap of “my product has everything better” as usually it is not the case.
Then analyse the “who” element and what makes the decision to buy. Sometimes it is not the end user that makes the purchase decision.
Now you have identify who wants it and why they need to want it you can safely select your media.
It is most important to indentify what is most cost effective instead which is the cheaper one. How cost effective is measured by numbers of people IN YOUR WHO list that reads or it reaches( you can get it from the media audit for printed media like newspaper or estimates rom the publisher), how much you pay for it (production cost and distribution cost)and how many will respond to the ad(your creativity in ensuring that more people in your list to respond) . Average out with various media.
I wish i can do a better job for you but since I have no idea where you are and what you local cost is, I wish you the best with advise that you seek professional ad company to work out the media. Get freelancers that have strong local marketing knowledge to save cost. You may even speak to some big agencies to do it as a pro-bono and sponsor since you belong to a non profit Organisation.
All the best

Susan asks…
Do you know any advertising slogans that are ambiguous? If so can you give me some examples?
admin answers:
Ambiguous how? Most advertising slogans are not product/service specific. For example, McDonald’s “I’m Lovin’ It” can be for food, clothes, adult-oriented products, etc. “Have it your way” from Burger King can also be used with a variety of products/services.

Mark asks…
How much could someone make from an advertising slogan?
If someone comes up with an advertising slogan for say Mountain Dew, how much could the person that came up with the slogan expect to make financially?
Assuming that it is a very memorable slogan that takes off and becomes a hit sensation that stays with the brand?
I’m asking it in politics because this seems to really be the only place where people actively answer questions on here and I figure that of the people that understand politics on here some may understand how business marketing works.
admin answers:
I do not know the answer to your question but if you are asking because you have such an idea here is some advice: Before you share it with anyone, write it down & mail yourself a copy, then do not open the envelope. Keep that unopened envelope in a very safe place while you try to market your idea, and keep a record of who you share it with & when. If anyone rips off your idea, the unopened, postmarked envelope will be evidence that you had the idea before the date of your conversations with them. Sorry I cannot help with the $$$ question.

How much could you potentially make for coming up with a new advertising slogan for a large corporation?
If someone comes up with an advertising slogan for say Mountain Dew, how much could the person that came up with the slogan expect to make financially?
Assuming that it is a very memorable slogan that takes off and becomes a hit sensation that stays with the brand?
admin answers:
In general, not much. Companies like Mountain Dew spend tens of millions on advertising every year. Very little is spent on the concept, most is spent on execution (filming the ads, photography, computer artwork, then paying $$$ to have them put in magazines and TV).
If you have what you think is a great idea, approach an ad agency and see if you could get work there. One idea won’t make you a lot of money, but a stream of good ideas may get you a job working at an agency!

David asks…
How much do advertising agencies charge?
For a local diner or a donut shop ect., how much do they charge to help advertise in newspapers, online ads, bus stop ad, ect. Do they charge monthly, yearly up front costs, percentages. How do they work. What is the paper work like. does any one have an advertising agency work at one or uses one. —(california, inland empire)—
admin answers:
Agencies vary greatly. Some work on a retainer. You pay them so much annually or monthly, and they handle all of your advertising. Others will work on a project-by-project basis. You give them the project, and they bid on it.
There are several things to keep in mind. When you advertise, you have two costs — creative and media. For example, if you are producing a newspaper ad, an agency will charge you for the creative time of designing the ad. If you also employ their services to buy the ad space from the newspaper, they will also work with the newspaper to place the ad and will pass along what the newspaper charges to you. Media buying is where the percentages come in. When they place your ads, they get what is called an agency discount, BUT they will still charge you the normal price of the ad. So, they are keeping the amount of the discount for their fee. If you opt to have them do the creative, and you place the ad yourself, you can ask the newspaper, or radio or TV station for the discount yourself. It’s called an in-house agency discount. One other thing. If an agency handles something like a direct mail project for you, you can opt to have the agency create the direct mail piece, work with a printer and a mailhouse to complete the entire project. Or, you can have the agency handle the creative only, get the file from them, take it to a printer yourself and work with the post office to mail it yourself. My point is that what you pay to the agency on a project depends on what aspects of the job you have them handle.
My advice is to contact two or three agencies. Ask to see samples of their work. If you like what you see, ask whether they only work on a retainer or on a project-by-project basis. If you have a small business, the latter may be the most cost-effective way for you to go. Perhaps you would use them for large projects, and handle some of the smaller ones yourself. If you do that, it wouldn’t make sense to be paying anyone a monthly retainer.
I do have one other suggestion. Freelancers are also an option for you. You may not need to work with a full-fledged agency. I was formerly an S.V.P. of Marketing who left my position and started my own consulting company specifically for small businesses. I’m a one-person show working out of my home, so I can offer more affordable prices for a small business owner. Your freelancer will typically charge by the hour, with the rate depending on where you live. There are sites on the internet where you can find freelancers, such as http://www.ifreelance.com. To find someone locally, start asking around. Are there other small businesses in town who have advertising you like? Contact them and ask who does their advertising. More than likely, one of them is using a freelancer. Your Chamber of Commerce or local SCORE office may also have the name of marketing/advertising freelancers.

I do not want certain mails from advertising agencies repeatedly how to stop it?
I do not want some email relating to certain advertising agencies (like viagra or bogus prize winning advertisements) which comes repeatedly. May I know the method of stopping such messages. I do not find any addresses (email Id) to stop such advertisement. kindly help me
admin answers:
When you open your “mail box” there is a check box in front of each message. Check the boxes of the mail you don’t want and go up to the tool bar and click on SPAM. Your server will automatically delete these messages before they get to you. It may take a while to get rid of all of them, but it’s worth the effort.

Ken asks…
Are advertising agencies going out of business? is it unrealistic to want to start a Marketing Firm?
I am interested in Television and Film Advertising and Marketing. I am also interested in Film Production and all other aspects of Marketing. I even have a great idea on how to improve Telemarketing for the Marketers and the customers…. any advice is great.
admin answers:
For the most part, ad agencies are not going out of business. They are, however, rapidly changing with new technology and going away from the traditional points of reaching their markets. With recent advances in rotating electronic billboards, media-based cell phones (or on-the-go processors i.e. netbooks/ iPads), social networking sites, and several advances that will be made in the near future, advertising budgets are actually growing to meet the current demands in “new media” over the last couple of years (despite the recession) and will grow even more soon, but they are cutting back heavily on allocated expenditures on traditional TV commercial advertising, stand-alone magazine ads, and the “old” way of creating market awareness.
The biggest advice you can have right now is: follow the current technology trends because that is what is paving the way in advertising, production, and consumerism right now, more so than I have ever seen. There has been a huge spike in social media and computer integration with everything- from digital cameras, post workflows, broadcast, to how we will view this media and be reached at home or “out of home”. It will be surprising for many people how quickly things will change in the next couple of years.

Joseph asks…
Where do you find out what advertising agencies are doing the campaigns for upcoming movies?
I wanted to find out the names of the agencies that do the collateral and media work for major motion pictures. Agencies handle it per movie, or per studio?
