Robert asks…
Which media is the best for advertising? Print ad, TVC, Billboard, pop-ups, Movie ads, fliers, etc…?
I’m doing a report about the media department of an advertising agency and I need to know which media the people think is the most effective.
admin answers:
Direct Mail is superior to everything else without question.
Direct Mail is not an intrusive medium like TV or Radio, which just comes at you if your ready, attentive or not. Those ads are also fleeting, which does not benefit memory. Direct Mail can be held and looked at longer. This invites further contemplation into the offer, and the possibilities therein.
78% of adults go to the mailbox first thing when they get home…and 3 out of 4 those people look through it before doing anything else.
99% of post cards get read
73% of unsolicited envelopes get openened.
Yeah wow…kind of an eye opener huh.
…and while any schmuck can throw together a piece of junk mail and get a 2% response, those companies who pay attention to what they are doing, and have learned how to craft a consistently effective mail piece, can take that captive audience and turn it into money.
Direct Mail is the only medium where you can target an absolute specific target. So, if you do your homework, and find your “highest probability”demographic…you can place your message directly in front of them. You get a one on one with the exact person who needs what you have to offer.
Radio and TV reach alot of random people…but the person who needs your services, and that TV/Radio ad still have to collide with each other in the same precise moment in time to be effective…or it is lost to randomness.
A Billboard is limited to those people who pass in front of it. Direct Mail is only limited to every citizen of the USA…..and then some.
Print ads in general are limited only by who you can get them in front of….but print ads are a pretty heavy hitter in their own right.
As with anything visual….it has got to look drop dead professional if you want it to get past the gate of skeptisism…the natural defense of consumers. Just like having an outstanding offer is essential for success in any type of ad. …and there are a good two dozen other checklist things that can increase response percentage.
You lay out a cheese wiz home-made print ad or direct mail piece, and it is automatically assumed anything you have to offer is of the same cheez wiz value. This unfortunately is the state of most direct mail that goes out. Business owners figure they can save a penny by doing it themselves.
Foolish indeed.
The important understanding here is that you can compare and study the different mediums…but there are too many other variables that come in to play that make a campaign successfull. Any medium can score a big hit, even with its inherent limitations….and its success or failure should not be placed on the fact that it was “direct mail” or “Movie Ad’s” or “Telemarketing”. It is content and substance that should take center stage in study…and therein you will find “what is best” for advertising.
Best of luck in your own studies and good fortune.

what’s the average price for advertising with a billboard?
admin answers:
Typical Cost is about $800 to $5,000 per month, depending on geographic location, board size, specific board location and number of boards purchased at one time

Betty asks…
How do you become a human billboard?
My mom was telling me that some people make a living having companies send them products to wear or use as a human billboard to advertise. How would you go about getting this type of job? If you set up an ad on craigslist, what would you say and how much are you supposed to get paid for that sort of thing? Also, I’m NOT talking about those jobs where you dress up as a chicken and dance around with a sign.
Thank you!
admin answers:
I’d ask for a little more than minimum wage, maybe even up to $15 an hour. It depends on what you want to wear and how hot or cold it is outside. I’d go to local companies in your area and see if they are willing to hire someone like yourself to do that.

Back in 1982 WGRZ-TV 2 out of Buffalo had billboards up all throughout Buffalo advertising the shows Three’s Company & Laverne & Shirley. Looking for someone from the station, etc. that might have a photo of this particular billboard. I collect photos of vintage billboards and would like to have a photo of the billboard for my collection. Thanks.
admin answers:
Try your craigslist message board if you haven’t already. It might be a little better of a venue for you. See the link below.

Why does Yahoo answer allow spam advertising posing as legit posters advocating “watch tv for free?”?
Direct TV runs these post all the time.
The question always goes ” How can I watch ______ for free on TV?”
It give a website and it is ALWAYS a redirect to Direct TV online services.
Sure it’s free (yeah, right)….it’s free after you pay for the package to watch.
admin answers:
The truth is that you are Ya hoo. It’s a user (that’s us) moderated site. This helps to keep the whole thing free. So it’s up to us to report abuse on all the spam andscamperss we see. If you think how many users are on here at any given time then ifeveryonee reported all the abuse they see we could keep the site free of spam.

How to advertise a band I know and love for free?
I run their fan club and was wondering where else can I advertise them for free at online? Tried posting links on here before but Yahoo took it down. I have a You Tube, My Space, ProBoards, Facebook, and FreeWebs sites/pages for them so far. The Facebook page is my facebook page but I have pics of them and talk about them etc to try and promote them. Thanks in advance.
admin answers:
Depending on where you live there might be a newspaper that will announce your bands gigs and if they are good, they may review them. Check to see if there is an alternative weekly in your area and contact the editor or person in charge of music reviews. It is great publicity!

Sandy asks…
How do you stop scams from advertising on here?
I have been doing my best to inform people of the extreme scam online that is witchescorner.com. I’ve noticed that Marisa Schmidt, the owner has been using yahoo answers to promote witchescorner.com, powerfullovespells.org, and witchcraft-love-spells.org under different alias’. These three are scams and need to stop stealing money from the weak and innocent. How do I put an end to this free advertising they get from posting their lies on here?
admin answers:
Click “report abuse” and leave a brief description. The account being used (after it is looked at by the administrator) will be deleted as per terms of service. Of course, the scammer can always start new accounts. At least you are smart enough to not fall for them.
