What can we do to make our billboard stand out? We are a hospital?

I have started a new advertising firm and want to set our customers billbaords off from the rest. any good ideas would be appreciated.

admin answers:

It depends on what you are trying to communicate. Is it a branding message for the entire hospital, is it to promote a specific specialty, or the quality of the doctors, etc. Who is the target? In general billboard messaging should be mostly visual with some short text. I would try to appeal to your target’s emotions.

What is the typical markup on Out-Of-Home Advertising?

I have an opportunity to sell a client outdoor media (billboards, Transit ads, etc.). The provider will give me agency pricing, but what is the typical markup on this form of advertising? I know there are only a hand full of companies offering this form of advertising, but a lot of resellers. Thanks

admin answers:

Within an ad agency all media placements are marked up 15% of the net that the vendor is charging the agency. The client is billed a gross amount, meaning that will include the mark up. For example- if a billboard cost $5,000 net per month to the agency, we will in turn charge the client $5,882.35 gross per month ($5,000 net divided by .85 = $5,882.35 gross). On the production side of things, meaning the cost to produce the vinyl that will be going on to the billboard the agency will mark that cost up by 20% of the net cost to bill the client gross. For example- If you have one 14 x 48 billboard that will cost $2,000 to the agency to produce the vinyl that goes onto the space then we will charge the client $2,500 per vinyl ( $2,000 net divided by .80 = $2,500 gross). If you want a really good OOH company to work with try Matrix Media, they handle many different kinds of OOH all over the country for placement and production. They are great to work with and make things easy especially if you are placing OOH in many markets and will provide you with agency pricing. Many agencies use them as a vendor. Good Luck!

Maria asks…

how much do people pay for billboard rentals in Oregon?

if you have a billboard for your business near the oregon coast……how much are you paying to have your business advertised?

admin answers:

I don’t know off the top of my head, but I’m curious too. I know it’s based on the size and the location of the sign, and that about 100 new signs have been added on the coast in various locations in the past couple of years (article recently in the Eugene Register Guard as I recall). The only one I that come to mind are the Mill Casino ones from Reedsport and south to near Bandon.

Update: I wasn’t able to find the actual costs, but there are two companies that have the billboards – Century and Meadowoutdoor. Most of the signs are for the casinos. But one was for the city of Gold Beach. You might call and ask if there is a difference in price for non-profits (like a chamber of commerce) and try both companies to see if their pricing is different.

Where can i buy a Forgiven Energy Drink?

I saw a billboard advertising this energy drink today. Where can i buy some? I live in Rancho Cucamonga CA.

admin answers:

Had the same issue myself, we filled out the “join out mailing list” at www.forgivenenergy.com and the sales person called me back 2 days later. Pretty cool people, they set me some sample cans for free and then I ordered a case from them directly. Probably the best energy drink I have tasted so far and the reasoning behind it is pretty cool as well. Hope this helps ~Sam

Risk Rule Riles Main Street

U.S. manufacturers, energy producers and other corporations are balking at a proposed rule they fear would drive up the cost of hedging against price swings in the commodities they depend upon, renewing a high-stakes debate over whether the regulation of derivatives should extend beyond the financial industry.

Caterpillar Inc., MillerCoors, Ford Motor Co. and other companies outside finance fought hard last year to avoid being regulated under a framework created by Congress to oversee the $583 trillion derivatives market, part of the Dodd-Frank financial overhaul. At the time, lawmakers said nonfinancial companies wouldn’t have to meet the potentially costly requirement …

There is an ever-growing market in sport memorabilia, and sports-related keepsakes include signed commemorative photos, baseballs, footballs, basketballs, pucks and jerseys. A Google listing of corporations hawking these items produces almost five million business sites! A few of the items on offer cost thousands of dollars.

Where there are so many eager and gullible customers, con artists are sure to show up. A San Diego federal judge who recently sentenced many sports autograph forgers to prison said, “Life, liberty and the pursuit of the national pastime, has been undone”. The prosecution stemmed from an FBI investigation called Operation Bullpen, which closed down a professional criminal organization that forged and sold sports goods enhanced with bogus autographs. Sixty search warrants were served, more than two dozen forgers arrested, and a warehouse with ten million dollars worth of fake merchandise was seized. The ring leaders received three years in prison and loss of assets to the IRS. Both current and faux “antique” items were involved.

Any sports fan who has a signed souvenir would be wise to question its authenticity. Phil Halpren, the assistant federal attorney who worked to prosecute the forgers, stated that fraud is so pervasive in the sports memorabilia market that unless you personally watch as an athlete signs an item, odds are greater than 50 % that it’s forged. Athletes most popular with the public are a hit with forgers, too. Halpren said, “If you see a Mark McGuire signature, it’s almost a guarantee, 99.9%, it’s a forgery.” Certificates of authenticity can be fabricated with as much ease as the collectible item they supposedly validate, so this is no protection.

Vendors are fighting back in an effort to maintain the integrity of the market. Disney, which owns ESPN, will commence next year to auction signed sports memorabilia online. Disney says it will authenticate the signatures with holograms encrypted with the item’s identifying information and tamper-proof package seals, videotaping the entire process.

Sophisticated forgers can even develop holographic seals which appear real to the untrained eye. Even so, the great majority of forgers are amateurs, and usually even a basic anti-forgery system is likely to deter them.

Baseball and football are the most popular sports in America, however some famous hockey players like Wayne Gretzky and Bobby Orr are popular targets for forgery as well.

With the large selection available, both in stores and on web sites, fans can avoid a lot of fraud by applying common sense. For instance, a baseball autographed by Babe Ruth selling for $500 is obviously a fake, because such a cost is unbelievably low, too low for real market conditons. As well, it pays to know a little bit about the development of baseballs and pens. If you see baseballs supposedly signed in the ’20s and ’30s with Sharpie pens, these items are obviously fake, because these pens weren’t invented yet in that era. To quote Phil Halpren : “I have seen Babe Ruth balls signed on a Bobby Black American League President ball. So, you know, he was president in the early ’80s. That’s impossible to have been done. However someone did it.”

So, while it’s enjoyable to have a peice of sports history to call your own, the motto to follow is : buyer beware. Unless you are a professional trader who knows how to authenticate merchandise, do not acquire an item strictly for its potential resale value, because you can be disappointed by what you sooner or later get back for it. Purchase an item you personally like and intend to keep, and do not spend thousands of dollars. This ensures that you will be happy when you admire your acquisition, without the lingering doubt that you have lost a massive amount of money on something of dubious value.

Anybody could own a web site. Anybody could up sell their own products and services to their target audience. Anyone could try to promote their web site with low cost promotion. But there are not many web-masters that have a truly successful web site with traffic all day through. What these individuals or companies lack is the most essential factor of success ? a low cost web site promotion that really works.

If you have been trying to promote your own web site and you have received traffic every hour, my hands are down for you. But for those people who need assistance, who does not have the patience to promote their own product and services, and lacks knowledge to properly advertise themselves, here are some guidelines to help you achieve success with a low cost web site promotion.

Search Engine Submission and Ranking are the two basic parts to a low cost web site promotion. Both of the parts have the same effect on the market of the web site ? for your products and services presented in your web site catches the people’s attention.

The first inexpensive method of web site promotion is the search engine submission. This first part is the act of filing information and submitting your web site to search engines. There are two types of Search engine submission ? manual and automatic. For a low cost and effective web site promotion, automatic submission is ideal because after filling up the information, a software program would forward this information to other search engines.

The second money-saving web site promotion is ranking. This refers to the numerical position in which your web site appears on a search engine, based upon the web site’s criteria. Some search engines rank the order in which your search results appear primarily by how many other web sites link to each page. The leading web sites on this order would eventually fulfill a low cost web site promotion.

Other types of inexpensive web site promotion you could use to boost up traffic on your web site are banner advertising, classified ads, text links and section sponsorship. Banner advertisements pop up above and below web pages, and sometimes in another window. Text links and section sponsorship may cost more, but these methods helps in promoting to your specified target audience. It wouldn’t harm your web site to try these methods.

Always remember that the effects of your not so costly web site promotion hits are increasing significantly each day. Don’t waste time; find an effective and affordable web site promotion of your choice today.

Snow Boarding Costs

So you are thinking about getting started with snow boarding and before you do you think that you will need to get to grip with the costs first. This is very sensible and is certainly something that I would recommend to anyone. If you cannot afford to get started then why try? However, I am sure that you will be pleasantly surprised to find out the kind of money that you are going to have to spend to get started. What would you say if I got lessons and on the slopes for the first time for well under $100! Yes folks, it really is that cheap, and it really is that easy. When I first got started, I stopped to consider if I would be able to afford it, and I phoned up my local slope that were really helpful in giving me an idea of all the cost that would be involved.

They firstly said that they recommend that I book up a block of 10 lessons in order to get started, but they explained that 3 would be enough. I guessed that they probably wanted me to pay more, so I decided to go for just the 3 lessons and this worked out just enough to give me the confidence to hit the slopes on my own. The fact is that the lessons cost $10 each, but it worked out a lot cheaper, because I decided to go for group lessons. This meant that when I was getting taught, I was actually getting taught with others. However this actually worked out to be better than I had imagined. It actually meant that I made some friends with which to spend some time with at the slopes, and that I now go along with every Wednesday night. It is ideal, and that is why it is maybe even better to do it on a budget!

Now the next thing that you are probably worried about is the cost that is associated with getting equipment and things like that sorted out. It may be expensive if you are wanting to go out their and get top of the range equipment, but it is just as easy and just as quick to rent out every time you go their. At my local slope, they charge the same amount for an hour on the slope whether or not you rent out equipment or not! That is why it is simply not expensive to get started, all I spent was $30 to get lessons, and I got a shot on the slope included in the price. What I would say is that if you can afford to go to the pub or go on holiday then you can certainly afford to the initial snow boarding costs.

This really is not that expensive and that is why I have to say that it is a great sport to get started in, regardless of your age. It is a good way to make friends, have fun and learn something new.

One cost that I forgot to mention is that I had to buy gloves. Buying gloves is simply a must, and they should be water proof gloves. If they are not water proof then you will end up with cold hands, and you will not enjoy your day out quite as much.
