David asks…
Is there better internet advertising than ADWORDS?
I am a plumber and it seems like all the plumbers are using adwords, is there an alternative that works much better?
admin answers:
It depends on how much you want to spend. AdWords can usually be pretty cheap because you can decide how much you want to spend and they’ll tailor your impressions based on that. You can also limit your exposure to only those located in your region. This is a big help for local businesses.
However, I think the best bet for a plumber is to advertise in the Yellow Pages (book and website) and local business handouts. If a person has an emergency plumbing need, the first place they’ll turn to is www.yellowpages.com to find local businesses. Make sure you have a listing, and it wouldn’t hurt to spend a little extra to make it stand out. Also make sure you have a link to your website. A lot of people want to make sure you’re a legit service before calling.
I also think that the business papers that are delivered to neighborhoods within your service area would be helpful. Ads in these small papers are usually really cheap, and they’re distributed to a large area. Yes, a lot of people throw them away but there are some that just leave them lying around. When they have an emergency, they go in search of them to see if they can find a good plumber with good prices.
I hope this helped!

Where can I find a Media / advertising Internet vocabuary term book or posting?
I am starting a new sales job in the internet marketing field and need to getting a better handle on the jargin that is used in this industry.
admin answers:
The best thing you could do is check out www.clickz.com. They are a complete interent marketing info site, start reading articles and get use to the lingo. To start you out you will have your basic marketing terms thrown in as well.
PPC = Pay per click
RIO – Return on investment
Conversion rates = Is the total traffic divided by how many actually click

Real estate internet advertising form or not?
Hi guys,
is a free listing of real estate object in lets say craiglist.com or in some free MLS considered as a form of internet advertising? Thanks in advance!
admin answers:
Yes it is considered as way of Internet adverting. There are lot of online real estate forums where people discuss about real estate trends and happenings.

Laura asks…
Do I have to charge GST on internet advertising services?
If I have a website that provides a directory listing service for companies to advertise or list their profile on there, is that service considered as zero-rated or exempt. Basically, all I would be providing is ad space on my website.
Note: I am a Canadian resident and this will be a Canadian-based site.
Thanks…
admin answers:
You will have to charge GST to all of your Canadian-based clients. Everyone else will be zero-rated and you need not charge GST.

Linda asks…
How do I advertise/generate new leads, interest for our online HollywoodCharityAuction.com?
Does anyone know of any low-lost/free ways to generate leads and get more people to register and bid on our private online auction site? (www.HollywoodCharityAuction.com).
We advertise in yahoo groups, email our registered bidders, blog, twitter, post to forums, but need a new way to find new people who are interested in VIP tickets to TV shows, Movie Premiere tickets, Set Visits to TV shows, signed scripts, etc.
This site is a fundraiser for The Broadcasting Training Program, a non-profit 501(c)3 organization formed in 1992. (www.theBroadcaster.com)
Any further advice would be appreciated.
Thanks.
PS Sometimes we post individual items on Ebay, but lately they have not sold and we are stuck with an Ebay bill for an unsold item.
admin answers:
There are several things that you can do and the list of resources you are using is far from complete. Here are just a few sites that you can use that can help you gain even more interest and some pricing.
www.PR.com
PR.com is a website that allows you to publish free press releases. These releases show up on the web pretty well but if you want a link to your website you will have to pay $30 per instance and they will only be live for a month or two if you are lucky since they utilize viral marketing and as new releases and articles hit, older ones get buried.
www.ezinearticles.com
Ezine is good simply because of their ranking. the site will help you get information and they make money off of the pay per click of your article, meaning that your competition is more than likely going to be on the page as well. Simple tip is to offer to sponsor your own articles. The cost is right around $50 a month last I looked but it will stop your competition from showing up on the article itself.
www.sayitaloud.com
I have to tell you, though they are somewhat new, this is quickly becoming one of my personal favorites. All of their articles are 100% original in tons of different categories and you can sponsor your article for an entire year for only $55.00. You can also look at your demographics and sponsor top banner ads on other articles for the same price. They don’t haver any monthly or pay per click fees which makes them much cheaper than almost any other medium out there. With tens of thousands of visitors a week and growing, you are sure to get your best value out of them now. The biggest negatvie is how much they keep changing things on the website. I start to get used to one style and another feature comes on board that I have to figure out. But I guess that’s pretty common for new sites like this.
www.wordpress.com
Most people know about wordpress but they are worth noting in here. WP is good and free, however the easy access has really made it a targeted home to spam and people quickly get buried in the archives. You will put a lot of work in only to have it get buried rather quickly, so be sure to use as many relevant keywords as possible to increase your organic results in the search engines.
There are plenty of other things you can do, however, getting a good marketer would probably be your best bet. Feel free to yahoo me if you would like (swapitall) if you would like additional assistance.
Hope this helps.

is it illegal for an american citizen to win cash prizes online playing pool tounamnts?
Yahoo has a online pool game provided by www.king.com which is a foreign website(UK).
www.King.com Skill Games can be either played for money to win cash prizes or played for free.
www.King.com also advertises and upgrade for a fee, where you can participate in real tounaments with real people online for cash prizes. Winners Payments are sent via paypal .
is it illegal for NJ residents to win cash prizes in a online pool tournament?
is this a form of gambling in NJ???
what are the consquences for doing so?
Withdrawals will be sent to you by PayPal.
You do not have to have a PayPal account to be able to receive money, the money will be sent to your email address and then just follow the instructions to claim your money. Your local bank or payment provider may add some additional costs for cashing the money.
The amount you have requested to withdraw will directly be deducted from your King.com account and this will be stated in your account statement. Although it may take up to 14 days to process your withdrawal request, and therefore you should expect to wait 14 days before the money is sent by PayPal. The exchange rate used by PayPal is the rate on the transfer date, 14 days after the withdrawal request was made on King.com.
admin answers:
No, not illegal.

Richard asks…
How much should it cost to post a job online – Are Monster and other large sites charging too much?
Hi,
It now costs around $385 to post a job on Monster.com for 30 days and around $350 to post a job on Yahoo Jobs for 30 days… This is a huge amount of money for such a simple service.
I am developing a new concept in online recruiting and would like to know your thoughts as a general member of the public. What do you think is a reasonable price to pay to post a job Online? (Realistic answers please) – Free would be nice, but then a company could only rely on advertising to pay the bills.
If you were posting a job online, would you prefer to pay a monthly fee or pay per posting?
Do you think its fair to pay up front then given access to search – or do you think you should be able to search first then only pay if you find someone you wish to contact?
Do you have any ideas or suggestions on what would make it easier for you or what features you would like to see?
I look forward to reading your comments, so I can adjust my business model to be inline with what the customer wants.
Thanks,
Dean
admin answers:
If I were a staffing agency, I’d prefer a flat monthly rate.
As a small business, a one-off fee is more appropriate.
Then, once the fee is paid, I get unlimited access to search as a “bonus,” even though we all know that jobs are posted and then the candidates usually self-select and take it from there.
As to price, I don’t know. When we had a vacancy to fill I was astonished by the rates; I had figured they might be in the $100 to $150 neighbourhood, and once I learned I couldn’t get anything for under $300 I used Craigslist instead. I got no bites, but I think that would be true no matter where I posted it, since it’s for a skilled trade position there’s already a shortage of labour for (small offset press operator). So in my case, because my hopes weren’t high for my ad being answered no matter what, I didn’t want to sink a lot of money into it.

I need some help with advertising!?
I have a few online stores, and I want to have them advertised. You know, in places like Google, Yahoo, etc. Do you know how I can advertise on a popular website for free? Please only reply if you know! Do not respond “no”, or I will flag you. Include website and basic instructions please!
admin answers:
There is a lot of way to advertise either free or at a very low cost online. These are broadly classified into 3 main area. 1) Buy Traffic 2)Build Traffic and 3)Steal Traffic. All of these are trying to get more visitor to visit your websites and eventually know more of your invention and get the products from you.
I normally use (2) and (3) as some of these methods are often free or at a low cost.
Find out more from the link in my profile, it tell you how to setup a successful online business including the ways for better marketing online. It will tell you what are these steps, the reason for each step, how you could go around doing it and where you could get the necessary resources free or at a low price.
Hope that it will be useful to you.

What do you think of AOL’s decision today to give away email and others services?
They will no longer market their online dial up services, and they are giving it all away for free. Even their security software and premium services potentially. The strategy is to concede defeat to broadband and free services by Yahoo/Google/MS and try to convert some of the brand loyalty into advertising dollars. Can they survive?
http://www.usatoday.com/tech/news/2006-08-02-aol-free_x.htm
admin answers:
It is risky because of all the revenue they will lose. But AOL is thinking that with free service, more people will be on their website and therefore more advertising dollars would go their way. AOL has been steadily losing customers as people switch to other providers. Therefore they feel they need to try something new. I feel it is risky because you are giving up a steady stream of monthly fees that customers pay to use the dial-up service. Hopefully what they do will work out though part of me feels extremely unsure that this is the right move.

What is a good free or inexpensive web hosting service for selling your own mp3′s and digital content online?
My friend is an amateur electonica musician and he wants to sell his techno music online. He is fully aware of the fact that he is one in a billion doing this. He told me that it’s not to become the next best thing, but rather to make some extra cash..even if it is only a dollar or two a day…in this economy it all adds up. He and I had some questions, so I wanted to try yahoo answers.
(1) Are there any articles on how to host your own digital download and mp3 site?
(2) Should he even bother to try this going it alone or with me helping?
(3) Also, how would he go about advertising something like this? (online ad’s, handing out flyers and cards in person, or in classified ad’s/craigslist? We know the Return on Investment would be easy, because he has the material to create his own free flyers.
Again, not to become popular/famous, just to sell it for a little extra cash. He is 29 years of age and pretty computer literate.
Oh one more thing..maybe it would be be better to go through a cdhosting service? Although, I heard sites like cdbaby.com and soundclick take percentages of the sales which wouldn’t make sense to sell it for a dollar anyways.
Just wonderin. Any thoughts?
(last time I posted this, people thought I wanted him to become the next big artist…he doesn’t care about getting noticed as long as he can sell some of his stuff, which I don’t have copies of).
admin answers:
If you want to be taken seriously you do no use a free hosting service as they place ads on your site – the ads might even be in competition of what you’re selling.
Get hosting. It starts from US$3.99 a month from one of the good hosting companies ie Hostgator.
Don’t bother with a static website but install a WordPress blog. The script comes free with a lot of hosting packages and there are a heap of free plugins available to install. Firstly, you need the WP e-Commerce plugin from www.getshopped.net. Its free (there is a paid version as well but necessary) and it will handle both digital and physical products. It uses Paypal as its fully secured payment processor.
You can enhance the blog various ways to help your marketing. Capture email addresses vai an autoresponder for a regular newsletter, add informative posts to the blog, subscribe to various blog directories, do article marketing, have an affiliate system for your products(there’s plugind for this also)

Where can a gentleman camchat for free on a private one2one basis?
I have a webcam and i was wondering where the best place to go for free one 2 one chating with no hidden fees. It seems that all the good sites advertise free public chat and signup but the ladies charge from 99cents/minute to as much as 5.99/min for private chat depending on the site. Then there’s Paltalk where it’s free to private chat but if you want good frame rates you need to pay an annual fee. Then when I went to Yahoo adult chatrooms the girls there weren’t independant webcamers but chathosts with ifriends, cams.com etc.
Would just running an online ad work or the newsgroups that pertain to camchatting be the best?

Club Pogo online games, I have some guest passes if anyone wants them!!?
If you are a paid member, they give you a couple 5 day guest passes, so does anyone want one? I just need to know an email address to send it to. Right now I have (let me check) 2 guest passes I can give out.
You may be wondering, why do I want to give them out to strangers? Well, I get 5000 tokens whenever someone uses one I give out, and most of my friends already have memberships.
What is Pogo? They just have silly little games (like all different kinds of solataires, mah jongs, etc) with reward systems (you earn badges) kind of like how Yahoo answers does. You can play games there for free w/o out a membership but there are less games and you don’t earn badges.
Trust me, THEY DEFINITELY DON’T NEED THIS FREE ADVERTISING I’M GIVING THEM, they have 1.5 million paid members, I just thought I would spread the wealth.

admin answers:
Before you even start considering spending money or time advertising your site, I suggest you study your site first and look at it from the point of view of visitors.
Here are my comments on your site:
1. All your products on the homepage shows “Error: Data not available (100)” — that means your site is not ready for operation and you should fix that first because no matter how much you spend with advertising if that is what visitors will see, they will not buy from you
2. You are wasting valuable space. 100% of your above the fold (at least on my screen) is just your note that your products change once a week, etc. etc. I suggest you go to the etailers website and study how they look. For one, the above the fold contains several key elements: (a) featured products, (b) note on what the site is all about; (c) featured promotions. Look at sites such as Target.com or Swimsuits.com — they understand how their precious real estate can engage visitors and make them want to spend money on their site.
Advertising and marketing is one thing; converting these visitors into buyers is a TOTALLY different thing. Your site is not engaging; it has broken features — and I would fix that first before I spend another cent with Adwords or other paid advertising. It will not work with the current look of your site.

James asks…
Advertisers do not pay advertising agencies, the media do. How?
It sounds rather absurd that the advertising agency works free of charge for the advertiser.I want to know the intricacies.
admin answers:
Umm… Where did you hear that? Of course advertising agencies charge the advertisers, who in turn pay the media. If it were the reverse, how would we get free TV if “the media” were paying the agencies to supply adverts to interrupt programmes?
The customers of media companies are the advertisers. All this mucking around creating TV programmes is just a way to get people watching adverts.

What type of candidate are advertising agencies looking for?
Young only or any age? Does a wide experience and education base help? Bored with traditional jobs.
admin answers:
Depends on the position. Age shouldn’t be a factor but not too young or too old…sorry to say. A BS is usually minimal requirement.
As a creative….Of course experience with creating ads, concepts, marketing etc
As an account rep…the ability to communicate, presentation skills, persuasiveness, professionalism, being able to work as a liaison between the client and creative dept. to come up with a successful ad campaign for the client. Advertising and marketing experience is helpful.
As an exec….to have many years experience in the creative development of advertising and managing a team of creative, sales, and rep employees with success.
Good luck bored one

Laura asks…
What is the contact information for the creative hiring persons at the biggest advertising agencies in NY?
I am looking for a way to get a direct phone number or email of people at such agencies, as W + K, Satchi and Satchi, Mother, BBDO, Chiat/Day and Fallon in New York. I have a good portfolio book, and want to find a way that it can be seen by those that can hire me.
admin answers:
There’s no passive way to get the info you want. You could try looking on their websites, but the easiest way is just pick up the phone and call. Ask the receptionist who the creative director is and if a portfolio review can be arranged. Many of the agencies are always open to seeing the work of new talent. I’m guessing you’re a graphic designer because that’s what agencies do. With the advent of the Internet, many of the CDs will ask if they can see your work online, so it’s best to get your work in a digital format where it can be quickly reviewed. Once they see your work online, they will ask you in for an interview. The really big agencies are going to want someone with experience so unless you have some with a smaller agency, you might be wasting your time. If you are indeed an designer there are some good places to post your work online in addition to having your own website. Let me know and I’ll send you the info.

I mean for free btw, so not google or yahoo or anything. Or the best methods.

I’d say articles is the best way. Write some articles.
If you’re selling literature, then convincing people that hat you write is good would be part of getting them to buy it. What better way of convincing them then writing an article?

Could I sue Yahoo! for deleting my account?
A few violations in the ANSWERS Forum is no reason to delete an account. Suspension from the forum might be okay if I used racist or vulgar remarks but I was only being silly. Like everyone else.
if you look through the forum there are many funny and silly answers.
That’s what I like abourt the forum. You get good advice and some laughs too. This is not a rant.. I asked one question about other users scores and my question was deleted and I was sent a violation notice.. And Yet there was a question in Polls and Surveys asking
who was online? Not even a real question according to the guidelines and yet it is still there!
I have had a Yahoo (free) account since 2001. I have a home page in geocities. I am sure Yahoo has earned advertising dollars from my site.
I may have to opt out of Yahoo and go elsewhere as I fear my new Account may be deleted.
Answers is only a forum. Not the end all of everything.
PS The Arab_sexy blog sounds like a porn blog. Why is it still rthere?
admin answers:
I don’t think you can sue Yahoo! Answers for that. Unless you can prove that you lost something because of your account deleting (like income) or suffered personal injury or something like that.
My old account I had since Yahoo! Answers first started and I was all the way up to Level 6. I had some 2700+ points. My account was attached to an email address I’ve had for at least 6 years. I answered a question and mentioned something about the downloading of torrents and my answer was deleted and my account “suspended”. I can understand why they deleted my answer, because torrents are a touchy subject (most people don’t understand that downloading torrents is not illegal, unless you’re downloading copyrighted stuff) and I can see how Yahoo! would think I was promoting illegal activity.
But to suspend my account? WAY too harsh! It was my first violation I had ever received. I appealed the decision and of course lost. Y!A doesn’t have a very good system for reviewing reported answers and questions. Plus, I think the appeals process is all automated and only in rare cases does an actual person read your appeal (if they do, they probably only read the first sentence).
I only still use Yahoo! Answers because there are some people on here who ask interesting questions and there are also some people who give intelligent, well thought-out answers. Those are the kinds of things I like to read.
But Yahoo! needs to get their act together a little better and focus on the idiots who post racist/vulgar remarks and ask questions about why they feel sick after smoking a whole bunch of weed.
