You have to have significant traffic to attract the big time advertising networks. If you have pages that talk endless and specifically about shoes, then adsense advertisements selected by Google would be shoe related but you can’t control the brand that appears (Nike?)

As a newspaper advertising rep, who can I market my medium to national ad agencies/ media buyers?
I know that large, national ad agencies/ media buyers would be interested in purchasing ads (for their clients) in the newspaper I work for. I am new to the business, but I know that my newspaper has indeed relied on national ad agencies/ media buyers for much of its ad revenue in the past (and still does). Is it okay for me, as an ad rep, to contact ad agencies directly to try to convince them to spend more of their client’s ad dollars with my particular media?

You should talk with your manager, every company is set up differently and a lot of the times, companies have national account reps that have the right contacts and skills to go after different agencies. If you are allowed I suggest networking and trying to get a face to face meeting to give them information to get back to you.

Are advertising agencies ethical?
I have a small business in need of advertising. I have been told advertising agencies are the best way to go but I have also heard they watch out for their profit more than mine. Another businessman says he hired an agency and they only placed advertising for him with media that paid a commission. For instance, there are two phone directories in our area, and the agency placed yellow pages ads in the one that paid the agency a commission and then totally left him out of the other directory. He felt he should have an ad in both directories since both are fairly popular. They told him he didn’t need ads in both, that just one would do. Now I’m not an advertising whiz, but even I can see that’s BS. When he confronted the agency rep, he was told the agency knew all about advertising and he should just let them make all the decisions. Is this a nice little scam? Agencies apparently make money from both the client and the media, so it would seem like it would be more profitable for the agency to use only commission paying media, even if it meant ignoring a good media source.

PS you are doing the right thing by asking others what they think of their Agencies (if people did more research before parting with their money, there would be a lot fewer cowboy operators ..)

Advertising Agencies Directory?
I am looking for a directory of marketing agencies in europe, and I
hope you can help me.
Here are the details for the search:
The directory MUST include: Name of the company, phone number,
webpage, and EMAIL address (not a contact form, but a real email
address).
The kind of companies im looking for are mainly promotional marketing,
event organising, and BTL agencies, but im also interested in
advertising and communication agencies in general (usually big
advertising agencies have a promotional / event department).
The countries i am interested in are all european countries, mainly:
-Great Britain
-Norway
-Finland
-Holland
-Sweden
-Switzerland
-Greece
-Germany
-Italy
-Russia
A good answer would have a link to a directory with not less than
1.000 european advertising companies. (or several links that sum up

One way that alot of people get into a major agency is by starting small. There are countless smaller ad and marketing agencies and firms that are constantly looking to hire new graphic designers, web designers, etc. If you have some graphic design talent, you can probably land a job at one of those places. You will work on local and regional campaigns, and sometimes the larger firms hire the smaller ones to complete specific portions of an overall campaign. While you’re there, you can use the work to enhance your portfolio and your experience, and then start applying to the bigger firms. Having prior experience in the industry does wonders for your attractiveness as a candidate.
Most importantly, always keep working on your portfolio. Build up your skills and show a diverse range of styles.

Can I build a billboard in my front yard and rent it out for advertising?
I live on an extremely busy/high traffic road in the country, right outside of the city. My house is located in an area that is highly traveled between a few different cities as the main route between them. I was thinking about building a billboard and renting the space out, but was wondering if I could do this? Would there be zoning issues as it is currently zoned residential? Are there rules as to how close I can have it to the road? Would it have to be approved by the city? Any info or stories about others doing this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Nope. Don’t do it, you’ll just get buried in a pile of zoning laws. Anyone will tell you, it’s easier to change the Consitution than it is to change zoning.

I’m considering going into advertising sales and, rather than selling for a specific platform or venue (i.e. Paper A, Channel V, Billboard C), I like the idea of offering clients various venues, doing the creating/buying/placement of ads for them, trying sundry approaches (print, direct mail, online), keeping track of the success of each effort, until we find the best mix…
Are there ad companies that specialize in this for small businesses? If so, who?

My club was looking for a company that specializes in marketing, and someone recommended Reduced Printing. We use them to print all our flyers, mailings, bus ads, billboards, designing and distribution.

I was driving on a bridge when I saw a suicide prevention billboard. Less than a mile ahead was another billboard advertising Nike footwear with the slogan “Just do it!”. .

Check into “Chiate Day.”
They’ve been around awhile now – I think since the 80s and they produce some of the most creative advertising in the US. They were considered a real upstart back in the day – but they are very respected now. I have no relationship with them, btw.
Another good resource that would help you find some others is a publication called Ad Week. They’re always talking about what ad agencies are doing which big campaigns, etc. That might help you in your search.

Advertising agencies developing your website? Most of this stuff is cookie cutter managed these days with personalized look and feel. Try Bluehost.com for starters as the tech support is solid there and they give you a lot of quick plugins, such as wiki or web2.0 functionality, as well as commercial servers.
If you want something a little more advanced, hire a temp php guy to work with your hosting company, or pay them to do it. An ad agency will hose you. John_lewin@yahoo.com for more suggestions.
