Susan asks…
Can I build a billboard in my front yard and rent it out for advertising?
I live on an extremely busy/high traffic road in the country, right outside of the city. My house is located in an area that is highly traveled between a few different cities as the main route between them. I was thinking about building a billboard and renting the space out, but was wondering if I could do this? Would there be zoning issues as it is currently zoned residential? Are there rules as to how close I can have it to the road? Would it have to be approved by the city? Any info or stories about others doing this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!
admin answers:
Nope. Don’t do it, you’ll just get buried in a pile of zoning laws. Anyone will tell you, it’s easier to change the Consitution than it is to change zoning.

Donna asks…
Are there advertising companies who focus on small businesses and create/buy ALL ads for a fee?
I’m considering going into advertising sales and, rather than selling for a specific platform or venue (i.e. Paper A, Channel V, Billboard C), I like the idea of offering clients various venues, doing the creating/buying/placement of ads for them, trying sundry approaches (print, direct mail, online), keeping track of the success of each effort, until we find the best mix…
Are there ad companies that specialize in this for small businesses? If so, who?
admin answers:
My club was looking for a company that specializes in marketing, and someone recommended Reduced Printing. We use them to print all our flyers, mailings, bus ads, billboards, designing and distribution.
They specialize in all sorts of full color uv coating printing and media related advertising. We were dealing with a guy named Max. He’s really knowledgeable. Good luck!

She looked like she was having a temper-tantrum. ….LOL

Mandy asks…
Does anyone know where to find Angel Investrors for a business?
Looking to start a new business, been in the industry for over a decade with company leading sales throughout my career. This business is very self contained and would involve only a few key people in order to get off the ground and could be started from an at-home office initially. Main funding would go to support my family while putting time into company, web advertising, billboard advertising (major interstate), and business filings.
admin answers:
www.gobignetwork.com is a website that links entrepreneurs with investors. I joined two months ago and posted a listing at $99.00 with no success. This month I have chosen the route on contacting three investors a day for $39.00 and hope to find a match. One thing to keep in mind though is that the fee is re-curring, so if you only want to pay for one month be sure to contact the Go Big admins before your month ends or they will automatically bill you. Overall, I have been impressed with Go Big. My business that I am trying to find an investor for is www.bakersfieldsbugzoo.com.
Good luck

Sharon asks…
How many types have on Advertising Agencies?
admin answers:
Types of Advertising Agencies:—
All agencies are not the same of course. This section discusses the various types of agencies including the following:
1.Full Service:—
These agencies offer their clients a full range of services including account services, marketing planning and research, media planning and buying, sales promotion, creative services, and interactive media. The various departments of a full service agency include:
•Account services:—
The link between the advertising agency and its clients. Account executives serve as the liaison between the agency and client and are responsible for coordinating the agency’s efforts in planning, creating and producing ads.
•Marketing services:—
Many full-service agencies provide a variety of marketing services to their clients and maintain departments such as research, strategy and planning and media. In a full-service agency the media department is very important since many clients are consolidating their media buying to save money and improve media efficiency.
•Creative services:—
Agency personnel in this department include artists and copywriters who are responsible for the creation and execution of the clients advertising messages. Creative services may also include print and broadcast production departments which are responsible for actually producing the advertising messages and putting them into final form. The traffic department coordinates all phases of production and sees that all ads are completed on time and deadlines for submitting the ads to the media are met.
?Management and finance:—
Like any other business, an advertising agency must be managed and must perform basic operating and administrative functions such as accounting, finance and human resources
Attention should also be given to the two basic types or agency organization structures used by agencies. Under the departmental system each of the agency functions is set up as a separate department and is called upon to perform its specialty for all of the agency’s clients. Many agencies use the group system in which individuals from each department work together as teams to service a particular account. Many clients prefer the group system because agency employees become very familiar with their business and it ensures continuity in servicing the account.
Other Types of Agencies and Services are:
1.Creative Boutiques:—
These types of agencies specialize in and provide only advertising creative services. IMC Perspective 3-2 provides some insights into these small agencies.
2.Media buying services:—
These are independent companies that specialize in media planning and buying. Many companies use independent media buying to plan and purchase media and an advertising agency to handle their creative work.

Why do some Christians seem to be offended at any advertisements involving atheism?
While driving 20 minutes from my home to St. Louis there are 4 billboards advertising Christianity. Advertisements for Christianity exist all over the place in the US.
Why is it whenever an atheist billboard or advertisement goes up it causes so much controversy? There seems to ALWAYS be some sort of debate sparked.
Why would anyone care? Christian billboards are never challenged as far as I’m aware of, why do atheist billboards offend so easily?
admin answers:
Christians aren’t used to any opposition without being able to execute the opponents.
This is a brave new world where the truth will win out.

Michael asks…
Im interested in buying a Billboard. I want to pucrchase the Board and charge clients a advertising fee.?
admin answers:
Most billboards are owned by Viacom or other conglomerates. Do you have someone lined up who owns one and wants to sell? You’re probably not going to buy from Viacom or others because they’re not selling.
If you’re planning on putting up your own, there are many costs to deal with such as construction, crews, lighting, buying or leasing the land, local and state statutes about beautifying highways and biways (some states have limits on the size of billboards, prohibitions on where they can be put up etc).
You’ll also have to advertise the fact that you’re looking for advertisers. You’ll probably have to do a lot of cold calls or try to steal advertisers from other billboards with lower costs or better deals.

Linda asks…

Price varies from location to location.

Sandy asks…
wich kind of advertising is the best in 2006 for companies (billboard , tv , catalogue ……..?
admin answers:
please always ask a question in detail.
TV, almost everybody watches TV, And every month 2-5 channels appear in the business. So, there 60% chances for a company that viewers will see that ad. The cost is high but the recurring profit is much more for the companies.

Susan asks…
Does anyone have any creative ideas for a cat food advertising?
I am at a complete loss! i’m studying advertising at uni, and have to come up with a billboard print idea for wiskas dentabites – they are meaty chews that make cats teeth strong and healthy. I’ve never felt so drained for an exciting idea, so i know this is kind of cheating, but i’m desperate. if anyone could share any exciting thoughts I would be so grateful. Thanks
admin answers:
This should help, it’s the process we use at ad agencies.
I’m not sure if you mean billboard AND print or just an outdoor billboard, but either way this process will get you from assignment to concept.
Start by thinking about the end benefit – strong healthy teeth for a cat. Now, how far can you push that? What are the signs of strong teeth? What can a cat do with strong teeth? Then exaggerate it. Can she bite through the billboard? Hang onto it by her teeth? Does that mean a house cat with saber-tooth tiger teeth? And what are the implications? Where’s the “uh-oh” factor – as in “We may have made our Dentabites too good.” Like that. The exercise is to take what you’re selling (which is never the product, but the benefit) and make it as memorable as possible by pushing it to its extreme. This is where the humor or shock value exists and where you find the best ads.
Just focus on the end benefit and don’t be afraid to follow even the most ridiculous idea as far as you can. Then once you’ve got a basic concept you like, execute it as simply as possible. If it’s all in the visual, don’t bother with headlines or body copy. If you’ve got a great headline, make that the hero of the ad. And always always remember, only put as much on a billboard as someone can get in 3 – 4 seconds. So no copy at all. Big visual, short headline or just big headline but not much.

Laura asks…
What percentage of a new car price is attributable to advertising? (all forms of ads and sponsorships)?
All forms of advertising, including sponsorships, newspapers, billboards, magazines, etc., any and all types of advertising.
admin answers:
I have no idea but car dealers spend fortunes to try to convince you to buy-much like many other products. It is included in the price of the car-certainly. . .

Steven asks…
If a billboard is on your property ?
If a billboard is on your property, should you generate some type of income because it’s there, also if you have not known it was there do you get backpay or something, or do they have to work you into the contract with the person advertising, any and all info is appreciated.
Thanks
The property was left to me by my father who has passed and im needing all the information i can get whether or not to sell it or keep it. if anyone has any useful websites please list. everyones input is greatly appreciated. thanks
admin answers:
Nobody can legally place a billboard on your property without your permission. You can require rent to be paid as a condition for allowing it to be there.
If you bought the property from someone who allowed it to be put there, you MAY have bought the property subject to the terms of whatever agreement there was between them.
For instance, the person who sold it to you may have charged ten years of rent in advance. If so, you may not be able to get anything more from them until that ten years is up.

ADVERTISING AGENCIES
Many large companies employ the services of an external advertising agency. In 2003 there were over 13,500 such U.S. and international agencies listed in the Standard Directory of Advertising Agencies, (The “Red Book” can be accessed at www.redbooks.com) ranging in size from one and two person operations to those with almost a billion dollars in worldwide income.
A. The Ad Agency’s Role—external agencies provide a variety of services to their clients, including those discussed in the previous section. Though many clients have the capabilities of performing these roles themselves, they elect to use outside agencies for the following reasons:
(1) the skills offered
(2) objectivity and
(3) experience.
