George asks…

How do I get more guests at my hotel?

I opened a 4* hotel last year-30 rooms. The problem is that the hotel may be too good (luxurious) for the town it s situated in, as people and business trip employees go to cheaper hotels. Guests are primary foreign but we do not seem to attract enough, to maintain 50-60% occupancy throughout the month. We have tried tour operators but it is not enough.
How do I boost sales.? Any good suggestions? Billboard advertising does not seem to help much…

admin answers:

make yr web site and post it on net, offer seasons and festival discounts and advanced bookings.i am sure yr hotel is a very good one but i think yr main problem is people do not know about it enough.u can even offer special discounts for couples anniverseries, b’days etc. and u can make tie-ups with offices and companies to send their clientele to your hotel.this scheme is very very effective and paye a lot.
concentrate on letting more and more people know about the hotel

Have you decided not to put an Obama sticker on your car because of fear of the consequences?

I’d be interested in knowing whereabouts you live.

By the way, it’s been found that a single bumper sticker has the effect of $500 worth of billboard advertising for a candidate.
Another BTW: you might be interested in knowing that stickers, nowadays, come off without harming the car. I was surprised by that. Back in my day, stickers were almost impossible to remove.

admin answers:

do people get swayed by bumper stickers?

anyhow, it would be a bad idea to do that here in the deep south…crazyass rednecks tend to have issues with ideas going against theirs and key cars and such for anything that oppose their sage wisdom

my opinion…the cars that have no stickers on them will be voting for Obama…low key quiet revolution.

Charles advertising billboard advertising

Charles asks…

What form of advertising catches your eye the best?

I was wondering since i saw a McDonald ad on Pandora and thought that was a really good way of catching my eye since i’m on there 24/7 anyway. What do you think? It can be anything like a tv ad, on a website, bench, billboard, etc. I was just curious.

admin answers:

It depends as we are random people and it depends on what else is going through our mind at the same time. Personally, I don’t like the billboard ads, as I can’t concentrate on them, because I am driving at the time, that is why I prefer magazine ads as I can study it, take my time with it, rip it out, save it, post it on the refrigerator to remind me about it, go look up the internet site with it, take notes on it, etc. Can’t do that with other types of advertising.
To answer your question though, just because it catches my eye doesn’t mean I will buy it/the merchandise advertised on it.
But if you want me to buy something, put it in print!

Do companies (like advertising agencies, publishers, magazines) use Paypal to buy/license images?

If I offer them this option on my website, will they use it? Is it a common practice? Or they prefer other payment types? And why?
BTW, Paypal accepts credit cards…

admin answers:

The ad agency I work for uses a company credit card to buy these images/licenses.

Susan advertising advertising agencies

Susan asks…

how does an advertising agency price their work and bill hours?

Do ad agencies work by estimating the number of hours a project will take to complete, and then multiplying that by their hourly rate?

What is the standard rate in the advertising business? (im not talking about the Saachi and BBDO’s of the world, more like a smaller agency)

thanks

admin answers:

There are no hard and fast rules but there are two basic methods for charging clients: commission and fee.

The commission method will be a straight percentage of the media budget. The standard commission is 15% but the rate will vary depending on the depth of services provided and the size of the media budget. Very large advertisers will negotiate lower commission rates. Smaller advertisers will pay full rates. Any hard costs, such as studio time, talent, photography, printing and travel will be additional and may or may not be marked up.

For the fee model, the agency will estimate the hours required for a project and multiply by their blended hourly rate. They will then charge a monthly retainer fee at one twelfth of the estimated amount. The more efficient will provide periodic updates and highlight any variations from the original estimate that may result in adjustments.

Famous advertising agencies?

what are the top 5 advertising agencies? do they charge as much for non profit organizations, or have any special deals?

admin answers:

Euro RSG
Grey
Ogilvy
Razorfish
Omnicom

When you say special deals do you mean buy three ads get the fourth free? The top agencies, take on large accounts and are typically based in NY on Madison Avenue. Typically they do not have different fees based on what kind of organization you are. They charge based on what kind of ad you want.

Advertising Agencies in Ohio?

Is there a way I can find out all/many of the advertising agencies in state of Ohio. i.e. in cities like Columbus, Cleveland, Dayton, Akron, Cincinnati etc.

I cannot trust craiglist or any other job-search website anymore. I’m frustrated at running into scams most of the time.

Also, searching on google has not provided me with many fruitfully appropriate results

So I was wondering if anyone is aware of any websites or magazines or any other source of information which lists the advertising agencies in the different cities of ohio.

Help will be very appreciated. Thank you.

admin answers:

Call Heyman Talent – they are in Columbus and Cincinnati

What is the most prominent advertising agency in NYC?

What is/are the most prominent advertising agency(ies) in NYC?

I’m thinking of applying for an internship during the fall and would like to know which agencies in NYC are considered the creme of the crope.

Not really for the salary but reputation and experience wise.

Thank you!
To the first reply: Yale actually. And really if you don’t know the answer to the question or have anything even remotely relevant to add, why post?

admin answers:

I am not from New York however here are some ideas to consider. I have attached a link to the American Advertising Club in NY. I would check that out.Secondly what do you want to do – work on the creative side or business side? Find people who do those functions and ask for informational interviews. Interactive agencies are worth checking out as well.Use Google Advanced Search and enter advertising agencies and must have new york in my search for a list of agencies. Check them out – go to their websites and look to see which ones might interest you.Read Advertising Age and Ad Week to get a feel for New York agencies and what is going on.If you go to Yale I am sure there are alumni you can contact in the business who can help offer advice. You get paid 2 ways – experience and money. Take the opportunity for the best experience from your internship and money will follow.

Advertising agencies re health?

I have a horrifying photo of post operative liver surgery. I think it would be the best thing to show people what happens when they drink to excess and need liver surgery. I think it would work better than the car crash adverts to make people realise what happens to their bodies in the long term when they drink to excess.
Are there any advertising agencies which would buy such a picture…maybe the ones who create adverts for the government. I would love to be able to donate the money to the hospital.
Please note that I said dsrinking to excess, binge drinking……not just normal social drinking which I personally enjoy. Many young people, especially young women are now having to endure liver surgery because of drink abuse.

admin answers:

You could try selling it to a picture library (if you own the copyright), these are used by publishers when putting books together you would recieve a fee everytime it was reproduced. If you don’t own the copyright I am unsure you could do anything with it.

Sharon advertising billboard advertising

Sharon asks…

Any viable idea to spend 1.5million to make consumers buy our branded popular drink packet drink?

Yearly, my company spends 2-5 million on billboard, TV etc advertising just to create awareness of our branded and popular product. Is there any other useful, innovative and cost effective ways to spend like that money which will not go to the pocket of TV owners and billboard advertising companies? What type of contest will be a good idea to make people buy more of our product to consume and we also reward them for their purchase?

admin answers:

Marketing wise, Red Bull are the king of the soft drink trade. They took a completely different strategy than their competitors and now they are one of the worlds most recognized youth brands, with large scale exposure in every country in the world.
They started with an extremely low budget – but have managed to become a household and more importantly one of the coolest most respected brands in today’s society.

Almost all companies launching or revamping a brand today are looking at Red Bulls advertising strategy and seeing what they can learn from it.

In terms of brand image, youth respectability and budget – guerrilla advertising and selected sponsorship have always worked well for emerging brands.

TV and billboard advertising are wasted on such a low budget. That sort of money could give you a healthy chunk of brand presence in some selected markets alongside a large slice of viral or traditional internet marketing.

Brand image, creative marketing and solid brand building should always come before gimmicks, rewards, vouchers, competitions etc… The latter options just devalue a brand in the long term.

For the amount of money you are talking about, you must be employing a advertising agency? Probably time to rip up that contract and find a new one?

Hey guise, some friends and I are doing an assignment. We want to know what you think of women being exploited in advertising in NZ, specifically in the Burger King advertisements, Tui billboards and also Car magazines.

EDIT: What effect do you think this has on other women? Please be detailed with your response.

admin answers:

Maybe this will help you, I don’t know.
I don’t think women are exploited. A person can be exploited and some are, no doubt.
Also, I think that the women who get paid for being in advertizements are doing it for the money, that is they are more prostituting themselves, rather than being exploited. They had a choice and made their choices.

What are some good ideas to do some small business advertising?

I own an insurance agency, im looking for some ideas as far as advertising goes. I have a fairly small budget but am considering newspapers, billboards ect. Also, what are some ideas that i can do while im in the office working? I sent out postcards to local homeowners and i didn’t get a huge response. Please suggest for me some bigger ideas and also some smaller ones that i can utilize while i have free time.

admin answers:

CD business cards, or even standard CDs or DVDs can create a much longer lasting impression than paper business cards, brochures, or post cards. Some companies charge a lot to produce a professional presentation for these discs, but I have put some things in place to make this technology affordable for small business owners.

We have hunderds of professional templates for CD business cards and samples of our work at http://www.discwritecd.com/

Please contact me if you have questions or would like a free sample CD business card with more info. JR
