Michael asks…
With a limited advertising budget, is a poster from Lamar worth it?
I operate a contractor-based, in-home tutoring business. I am already advertising in a local parenting magazine and with the Yellow Pages. I also have a website.
I’m considering buying a poster (a smaller billboard on a Highway) in the area. The poster I can get is on a very high traffic highway in a city in which many of my parents/clients live.
The poster would be $1,500/month. This would tap pretty much the rest of my advertising budget for a month or two. As consumers, do you think this is worth the money? Would a poster legitimize a business to you and raise your interest? Or do you think I should focus on ads in magazines and a flyer campaign in doctors’ offices, dentists’ offices, etc.?
admin answers:
For that amount of money, I would tap into radio first.

Sandy asks…
What’s up with Coke billboard?
I keep seeing these billboards advertising a 2-pack of 50-oz bottles of Coke, and they say “100 oz of Coke — Enough For Your Meal”. What does that mean? 100 oz is like 3/4 of a gallon! Does it mean that it’s enough to BE a meal by itself? Or it’s enough for my whole family’s meal? Who would drink 3/4 of a gallon of Coke with one meal? And if it’s for one meal, why is it in 2 bottles? I don’t get it!
admin answers:
prlly enough for a meal with a family. including refills.

Carol asks…
How do small businesses decide where to spend their advertising budgets?
Their are so many places to advertise these days. The yellow pages, online, outdoor billboards, local radio, sponsoring teams or events, local newspapers and magazines. How can a small business sort through all of these options?
admin answers:
You have to look at your demographics and at what they are most likely to pay attention to.
Yellow pages are fine for some retail, but have really become a huge (in the cost of larger ads too) of money due to the fact that many places now have 4-5 different versions and usually only keep one book. The only way that they are usually going to really be cost effective anymore is if you really have a business that has some kind of niche that keeps you from being one of many of the same type listed there.
If you own a sign, printing company, or other that relates to team parents and children; sponsoring teams might work some, but is usually more of a courtesy to show some community involvement. Don’t forget direct mail, this can be the most cost effective way to reach specific groups of customers with advertising and coupons and can be based on demographics.
So you ask who my customer is, where they live, and what do they like and you have the best chance of coming up with the best answer.

Donald asks…
If a political candidate has advertising credit leftover can he/she use it for personal use?
Can a political candidate who buys billboards for example use a balance left over with the billboard company for personal use? So, for example, let’s say the candidate uses campaign money in the amount of $50,000 to advertise his campaign but only uses $40,000 of or gets a credit from the billboard company for whatever reason, can the candidate use it to promote a personal business after the campaign is over considering that the money from the billboard company is not refundable and the remaining balance can only be used for billboard advertising?
admin answers:
Actually, the previous answer is wrong. Teh campaign must keep its money separate from the candidate’s personal or toher businesses.
In fact, probably, each campaign must be kept separate, unless the money was given specifically for the candidate to decide which campaign to apply it to.
Many campaigns end in debt, and then even losers have to find a way to raise the money to pay for the services already used. This can be difficult for a losing campaign, but it happens. I think McCain ended the last Presidential campaig n in deep dept (don’t quote me on it though) and had to go on the rubber chicken circuit to raise money, even though he had plenty in other “war chests”.

A few questions about designing a billboard?
So, for a project in school, we have to make a billboard advertising one good that was carried along the Silk Road. No one in the history class can repeat a good, and we already signed up for goods- I have to advertise grain.
Can you tell me answers of these questions:
-What is a catchy slogan to advertise grain along the Silk Road (It can be modern. Doesn’t have to be relating to ancient times)
-Can you tell me a little bit about the grain along the Silk Road
THANKS SO MUCH GUYS/GALS!

Advertising Agencies Directory?
I am looking for a directory of marketing agencies in europe, and I
hope you can help me.
Here are the details for the search:
The directory MUST include: Name of the company, phone number,
webpage, and EMAIL address (not a contact form, but a real email
address).
The kind of companies im looking for are mainly promotional marketing,
event organising, and BTL agencies, but im also interested in
advertising and communication agencies in general (usually big
advertising agencies have a promotional / event department).
The countries i am interested in are all european countries, mainly:
-Great Britain
-Norway
-Finland
-Holland
-Sweden
-Switzerland
-Greece
-Germany
-Italy
-Russia
A good answer would have a link to a directory with not less than
1.000 european advertising companies. (or several links that sum up
that amount of companies).
I will also consider marketing contacts of
multinational companies as valid.

Jenny asks…
how to get in advertising agencies?
i want to know how to get job in advertising agencies as graphics
designer. i am 7 years experience in graphics designing and know
the following software corel, photoshop, pagemaker, quarkexpress,
illustrator
admin answers:
One way that alot of people get into a major agency is by starting small. There are countless smaller ad and marketing agencies and firms that are constantly looking to hire new graphic designers, web designers, etc. If you have some graphic design talent, you can probably land a job at one of those places. You will work on local and regional campaigns, and sometimes the larger firms hire the smaller ones to complete specific portions of an overall campaign. While you’re there, you can use the work to enhance your portfolio and your experience, and then start applying to the bigger firms. Having prior experience in the industry does wonders for your attractiveness as a candidate.
Most importantly, always keep working on your portfolio. Build up your skills and show a diverse range of styles.

How can BPO companies help advertising agencies, or how can BPO companies be a success to online advertising?

BPO can help the advertising agencies and online advertising by the following ways:
1. BPO does both core and non-core fuctions for the company and agencies.
2.It will also be responsible in taking all the IT responsibilities that include dealing with website, server, rating, customer database. Many technical expertise is used of the BPO which includes knowledge, skills, creativity at low cost.
3. BPO often is involved making survey in the market for advertising companies like telephone survey, email survey. They also reach various companies for the advertising agencies and get business from them.pursuing various companies
3. It will be involved in the human resource fuctions like payroll, training and so on.

James asks…
Do you think advertising agencies really believe the public is so dumb they can say something like this?
Just saw a shampoo ad on TV. It showed someone gently put their fingers through their hair and found a few strands in their hand. Then a voice said “Did you know that falling hair is a sign of weak hair?”
ummm…. yes!! (Did you know that saying the bloody obvious to the audience is a sign of your own stupidity and contempt? – LOL)
admin answers:
Did you know that the average television ad is on a third-grade level? And yet they sell stuff? Don’t think about it too long, or you WILL get depressed!

Robert asks…
How to land a job in an Advertising Agency??
I live in Miami and I’ve sent a lot of resumes and I’ve called the agencies to send in my resume and they always tell me to email it. I never get an answer. I don’t know where else to look for an Advertising job. I don’t have any experience (except for a 6 month internship at a bad ad agency) but I really want to start my career. I don’t know what the next step should be….
I don’t know if there’s something wrong with my resume or cover letter.
admin answers:
Has anyone proofread both your cover letter and resume?
That’s #1. Grammatical errors will disqualify you immediately.
#2 What is your job objective as stated on the resume? You want to start out in an agency, but what do you want to do? Do you want to be in production? An Account Executive? A Copywriter?
You could go to various employment agencies with your resume. They might be able to place you – and it won’t cost you anything since they are paid by the employer.

Laura asks…
Why are there so few billboard signs on Maryland interstate highways?
I live in Maryland and in almost every state I have been to, there are signs on their interstate highways advertising services on different exits. Maryland has a few of these on Interstate 68 and Interstate 95 in Baltimore, but not as much as all the states bordering Maryland, and some states out West. Does anyone know why this is?
admin answers:
My guess would be that they’re usually not attractive and clutter up the highways.
When they opened up the Blue Route fifteen years ago in Philly’s western suburbs, they actually made it billboard free by law. They didn’t want billboards littering the highway.
So I’m sure Maryland is probably the same way.

Susan asks…
How much paper does the advertising industry use in say a week or a year?
I’m writing a paper on what ‘sins of advertising‘ and the environmental issue came up. I cant find any information on it. From what i can imagine, the industry must go through a mass amount even in a week considering junk mail, billboards and most techniques they use. Any answer you give, would it be possible to link and information found on the topic too please.
admin answers:
who cares trees grow back, and paper is biodegradable. Not to mention that the increasing importance of internet advertising and the fall of paper handouts is making the industry use less paper every year.
if you really want to write something about the “evils of advertising” how bout you write about them pushing advertising into new areas, like my cell phone

Donna asks…
What is the name of the German equivalent for billboard?
I am trying to find the correct spelling of the round advertising boards found on the sidewalks in German towns. The board is a place where local news, events, shows, bands, etc are posted. The round pole varies in size and can be a foot to several feet in diameter and I would guess 8 to 10 feet tall. It was named after the inventer who was a printer I believe. Phonetically I believe it is Lit-fa-zoil. Any help is appreciated.
admin answers:
It’s a “Litfaßsäule” (or Litfasssäule, Litfass column), named after its inventor, the printer Ernst Litfaß.
The English term is the “Morris column”, taken from the French “Colonne Morris” for some reason.

Is advertising a business Banner on a Boat Trailer behind your car allowed on California Streets?
I have a small marketing business that I’m trying to promote. I was thinking of buying a boat trailer and putting my business Vinyl banner on the trailer and just drive around the road here in San Jose, California. Would that be illegal to do? It will be like driving billboard in the City.

How do I get more guests at my hotel?
I opened a 4* hotel last year-30 rooms. The problem is that the hotel may be too good (luxurious) for the town it s situated in, as people and business trip employees go to cheaper hotels. Guests are primary foreign but we do not seem to attract enough, to maintain 50-60% occupancy throughout the month. We have tried tour operators but it is not enough.
How do I boost sales.? Any good suggestions? Billboard advertising does not seem to help much…
admin answers:
make yr web site and post it on net, offer seasons and festival discounts and advanced bookings.i am sure yr hotel is a very good one but i think yr main problem is people do not know about it enough.u can even offer special discounts for couples anniverseries, b’days etc. and u can make tie-ups with offices and companies to send their clientele to your hotel.this scheme is very very effective and paye a lot.
concentrate on letting more and more people know about the hotel

Charles asks…
Have you decided not to put an Obama sticker on your car because of fear of the consequences?
I’d be interested in knowing whereabouts you live.
By the way, it’s been found that a single bumper sticker has the effect of $500 worth of billboard advertising for a candidate.
Another BTW: you might be interested in knowing that stickers, nowadays, come off without harming the car. I was surprised by that. Back in my day, stickers were almost impossible to remove.
admin answers:
do people get swayed by bumper stickers?
anyhow, it would be a bad idea to do that here in the deep south…crazyass rednecks tend to have issues with ideas going against theirs and key cars and such for anything that oppose their sage wisdom
my opinion…the cars that have no stickers on them will be voting for Obama…low key quiet revolution.

Please Respond: How do I get more advertising on stopping child abuse?
I want child abuse to stop. Is there a way for me to contact somebody to advertise, make commercials, or more billboards making people more aware that child abuse is happening. I am more than willing to write a letter to any gov. representative, business owner, etc. about the issue. Please repond! Thank you in advance. =D
admin answers:
If you are representing your own organization, you can tie up with other Child Welfare organizations and the United Nations.

John asks…
What form of advertising catches your eye the best?
I was wondering since i saw a McDonald ad on Pandora and thought that was a really good way of catching my eye since i’m on there 24/7 anyway. What do you think? It can be anything like a tv ad, on a website, bench, billboard, etc. I was just curious.
admin answers:
It depends as we are random people and it depends on what else is going through our mind at the same time. Personally, I don’t like the billboard ads, as I can’t concentrate on them, because I am driving at the time, that is why I prefer magazine ads as I can study it, take my time with it, rip it out, save it, post it on the refrigerator to remind me about it, go look up the internet site with it, take notes on it, etc. Can’t do that with other types of advertising.
To answer your question though, just because it catches my eye doesn’t mean I will buy it/the merchandise advertised on it.
But if you want me to buy something, put it in print!
