Mary asks…

Has anyone rented a property to an advertising company?

I just bought a quarter-acre of land adjacent to an interstate off-ramp, and thought about leasing it to an advertising company for them to build a large billboard. I think it would be some great cash flow for me, if I was successful. Has anyone done this, or heard of anyone who has, and what was the result?

admin answers:

First step would be to file for the proper permits and find out whether or not you will be allowed to. And second would be to do an ethical gut check. Billboards are ugly to look at and most residential areas will fight tooth and nail to keep them out.

If you’re really dead set on the idea, get the zoning approval and erect the billboard with a Your Ad Here sign on it.

FYI, If that on-ramp land you bought is the one that just sold down the street from my house, I’ll make it my life’s mission to stop you from doing this since that would block my view of the sunset.

Advertising Comparisons of different Mediums?

I’m looking for a recent study on the effectiveness of different advertising mediums (ie Billboard, TV, Internet, etc..). I need it with actual statistics about how effective it is for audiences. Neglect cost. I only need effectiveness to inform. Thank you.

admin answers:

You can purchase the book, “Intermedia Dimensions” from Media Dynamics for $250. You might check a library to see if they have it. (A major city library is more likely to) This is a ligit source; Media Dynamics publication are used commonly by ad agencies.

What’s your view of advertising and product placement in online games?

This is the kind of thing where a billboard in an auto racing game will flash a real product advertisement, or a bot will be carrying a can of a particular soft drink. Would your view change if allowing this kind of advertising made prices lower for gamers?

admin answers:

I do think it’s more creative when developers drop in their own satirical ads (like Spunk cola in GTA). But given the massive expensive of developing the truly impressive franchises, it’s understandable that game makers will get revenue through any possible avenue. And it’s their property, so who’s to criticize them?

In truth, it can actually contribute to the realism of a game, if properly done (I’m thinking of stuff like racing games).

It wouldn’t change my opinion if it lowered prices, other than perhaps to make the more okay with it. But honestly, I don’t see that happening. Developers have already determined that we’ll pay $45-$75 per title. Any extra income they can generate from a title isn’t going to be altruistically handed back to the consumer in the form of lower prices. It’s going to be given to shareholders in the form of higher returns.

Helen asks…

Does billboard advertising work?

admin answers:

I’d say so, Eddie, or they sure wouldn’t invest in doing it. I’d call it a form of “subliminal” advertising. IF you’re shopping for a particular item, that sign you saw at some point in time may just “click” with you. I KNOW those signs aren’t cheap, so I’d say they must work…

Advertising/ Design agencies offering Year 10 work experience in Brisbane?

does anyone know of any advertising /design agencies offering Year 10 work experience in Brisbane?

admin answers:

When I was at school, rare few employers offered places for work experience. It was up to us to approach various companies and ask them if they would take us on for a week.
Maybe you could find a few agencies you would like to visit and contact them to ask if they would help you out.
Good luck!

Advertising Agencies in Major US Cities?

I’m a Communications major in college right now, nearing my last three or four semesters of college, give or take.

My major is very broad, encompassing a lot of different fields of old media and new media including television, radio, film, journalism, and advertising.

I’ve taken a lot of advertising classes to fulfill my major and I could really see myself getting into this line of work right out of graduating.

I’m willing to move to a major city somewhere in the US in order to start my career so I was wondering, does anyone know of the best cities to pursue work in advertising?

Thanks in advanced!

admin answers:

http://104inc.com is a great online advertising firm that is based out of southern california. I guess if you’re looking to move you may want to take a look at their website and contact them if you have any questions.

Is that legal to use “Einstein” pictures in vast numbers on advertising billboards?

In US or Euro, Asia,Africa,whereever.

admin answers:

Yes. Photos usually are not the property of the person pictured. Most likely they are the property of the person who commissioned them or took them. If a photograph of a person is taken in a public place it does not have any legal limitation other than it is the property of the person who took the photograph.

If the picture a person wants to use is owned by somebody permission is obtained and sometimes a commission, must be paid to that party.

Laws vary in each of the countries you listed. I know that copy right laws are weak or non-existent in Asia and Africa. Europe, not as a whole, is very similar to its application of copy right law as the U.S. is.

Why is a highly sexualised billboard preferred to a religious billboard?

Eight year old kids don’t need to see public billboards containing sexualised images/messages, but religions contain values such as love and forgiveness that are worth hearing about at any age.

… and yet either type of billboard is STILL prefered to one promoting secularism, which conveys such messages as to promote critical thinking?

Critical thinking immunises people against advertising bullcrap of _all_ types. Sexualised or not.

admin answers:

Sex sells and the objective of advertising on billboards is to promote products.

How come girls give away their picture for free advertising use?

This girl I know is absolutely ecstatic after she posted her picture on a makeup website and some advertisers picked it up and put it on a billboard. All of her friends going gaga over how cool she is for being a model. UM, so the company is getting FREE advertising. Why doesn’t she care that she’s not getting any money from this?

Ugh. It’s like she doesn’t need money for compensation because what she wants most is to stroke her ego.

admin answers:

I think she’s silly for letting them steal her image and should demand money off them

How professional advertising agencies can contribute to the success of a marketing campaign?

prefessional campaigns

admin answers:

The larger, really good agencies will do your research for you about your industry, your competitors, and your customers. They will know your company and your market better than you do..

Their main disadvantage is that they will eat your entire marketing budget and spit it out in 2 seconds flat…

The smaller ones just develop some pretty pictures and take you out to lunch.

Lizzie advertising advertising agencies

Lizzie asks…

What are those activates of advertising agencies?

admin answers:

ADVERTISING AGENCIES : -

Many large companies employ the services of an external advertising agency. In 2003 there were over 13,500 such U.S. and international agencies listed in the Standard Directory of Advertising Agencies, (The “Red Book” can be accessed at www.redbooks.com) ranging in size from one and two person operations to those with almost a billion dollars in worldwide income.

A.The Ad Agency’s Role : —

External agencies provide a variety of services to their clients, including those discussed in the previous section. Though many clients have the capabilities of performing these roles themselves, they elect to use outside agencies for the following reasons:

(1) the skills offered

(2) objectivity and

(3) experience.

B.Types of Advertising Agencies : —

All agencies are not the same of course. This section discusses the various types of agencies including the following:

1.Full Service : —

These agencies offer their clients a full range of services including account services, marketing planning and research, media planning and buying, sales promotion, creative services, and interactive media. The various departments of a full service agency include:

•Account services : —

The link between the advertising agency and its clients. Account executives serve as the liaison between the agency and client and are responsible for coordinating the agency’s efforts in planning, creating and producing ads.

•Marketing services : —

Many full-service agencies provide a variety of marketing services to their clients and maintain departments such as research, strategy and planning and media. In a full-service agency the media department is very important since many clients are consolidating their media buying to save money and improve media efficiency.

•Creative services : —

Agency personnel in this department include artists and copywriters who are responsible for the creation and execution of the clients advertising messages. Creative services may also include print and broadcast production departments which are responsible for actually producing the advertising messages and putting them into final form. The traffic department coordinates all phases of production and sees that all ads are completed on time and deadlines for submitting the ads to the media are met.

?Management and finance : —

Like any other business, an advertising agency must be managed and must perform basic operating and administrative functions such as accounting, finance and human resources

Attention should also be given to the two basic types or agency organization structures used by agencies. Under the departmental system each of the agency functions is set up as a separate department and is called upon to perform its specialty for all of the agency’s clients. Many agencies use the group system in which individuals from each department work together as teams to service a particular account. Many clients prefer the group system because agency employees become very familiar with their business and it ensures continuity in servicing the account.

Other Types of Agencies and Services

1.Creative boutiques—these types of agencies specialize in and provide only advertising creative services. IMC Perspective 3-2 provides some insights into these small agencies.

2.Media buying services—these are independent companies that specialize in media planning and buying. Many companies use independent media buying to plan and purchase media and an advertising agency to handle their creative work.

Sharon advertising advertising agencies

Sharon asks…

How do advertising agencies work? for eg.

I am a telesales agent selling advertising space at sporting events, if i were to contact an advertising agency could i offer my proposal and then they inform their relevent client? when I call the advertising agency whom would i want to talk to about this?

admin answers:

Hmmmm…

Agencies might be interested in adding something like this to a client’s marketing mix if the product or service fit with your program (i.e. sports oriented).

Usually, it is the job of the media buyer to suggest different media channels (you would be considered a media channel). He/she is responsible for putting together the media plan and helping the account executive present it to the client.

Net/net…start with the media buyer.

Good luck!

Are advertising agencies dying out?

With the eradication of this need for ‘the middle man’ in many cases, such as advertising solutions offered by Google, is it safe to say that advertising agencies are slowly dying out?

admin answers:

Yes they are. The big boys will live on who service Fortune 500 companies, but the smaller and middle sized ones are becoming extinct.

Mary advertising advertising agencies

Mary asks…

My major is Marketing, and I am looking for summer internships. What do Mkt or Advertising agencies look for?

For internships at a Marketing or Advertising firm, what experience do I need? What are some highly recommended firms to send my resume to? I am looking for firms in the Philly, South Jersey, New York/Long Island area.

admin answers:

It is a chicken and the egg paradox.

They look for experience in order to give you an internship which helps you find another internship/job because you will have gotten more experience.

Usually beg, borrow, or steal and internship at first and build on that.

Banks Reach Deal on Capital Buffer
